Kay Johnson Bio
Kay Johnson is a former entrepreneur and film executive. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1993 and a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2001. Kay has also earned a cosmetology license and a pilot’s license.
Kay is a 2009 graduate of Purdue University with a Master of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics where she also earned Federal Aviation Administration certification as an Airframe and Powerplant Technician. While at Purdue, Kay served on the Provost’s LGBTQ Advisory Board. Kay was named Outstanding Graduate Instructor by the Department of Mathematics. Kay was a two-time Graduate School fellow including being the first in Purdue history to be funded for “Enhancing recruitment and retention of LGBT graduate students to increase the number, quality and diversity of Graduate School applicants”.
Kay Johnson is a transgender activist and authenticity advocate. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP).
Kay is the founder of NOGLSTP at Purdue which was the first ever NOGLSTP university student group and the creator of Get Real About Discrimination. Kay moved to Bloomington in August of 2009 with her partner of seven years. Together, they founded NOGLSTP at Indiana University and have started a local Get Real About Discrimination weekly empowerment group.
