NOGLSTP at Purdue cosponsors Shell Career Forum

On Wednesday April 8, 2009, NOGLSTP at Purdue cosponsored the Shell Career Forum. Susan Lallier Smith, a representative from Shell Oil, gave a short speech and answered audience questions about the various opportunities that Shell has to offer college students, as well as their open attitude towards members of the queer community and their allies. As a representative of “SEA-SHELL” [Supporting Education and Awareness at Shell], the company’s LGBTQ network, she was able to speak about how she has had many positive experiences working as an ally and has met very many interesting people. She explained that the a few of the reasons that Shell earned the highest possible score from the HRC were their domestic partner benefits, diversity training classes, and the content of their discrimination statement. Although Smith did not expend as much effort speaking about being “out” on one’s resume as expected, she provided an interesting and informative insight into Shell Oil’s accepting community.
