About our group

We are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered mathematicians, statisticians, math educators, and math theorists, and allies thereof. Some of us are members of the American Mathematical Society and/or the Mathematical Association of America. Some of us are members of the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals. For many years, we have been getting together at the Joint Mathematics Meetings for our own GLBT meet and greet, which George Bradley organized and hosted.

Now known as the Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Mathematicians, we are a NOGLSTP caucus.

Mission Statement:

The association strives to establish and cultivate a vital and supportive community of LGBT mathematicians and their allies.

Objectives:

  • establish contacts among LGBT mathematicians and their allies
  • publicize the historical and current contributions of LGBT mathematicians to mathematics
  • promote an image of mathematics as an appropriate vocational choice for future LGBT mathematicians
  • oppose discrimination against LGBT mathematicians as a result of their gender orientation
